Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there are two primary reasons for WWE's decision to go ahead with Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar again. Injuries to top stars like Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes led WWE to go with Lesnar again for a major match against Reigns.
''Following injuries to Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes, and blowing off Riddle on Smackdown, the WWE title picture looked empty again, which led to the return of Brock Lesnar,'' said Meltzer.

Meltzer also noted that, other than Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns are the only two stars who are pushed at the megastar level, so a clash between the two was the biggest match possible.
''On the other hand, Reigns and Lesnar are the only two people truly pushed and protected at PPV level with the exception of the injured Rhodes, and it’s by far the biggest match they can do in the SummerSlam title match,'' he added.
