Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select first reported the release of several superstars before the WWE's official announcement. He also reported the real reason behind the WWE release of former Universal Champion Braun Strowman.
Now, Sean Ross Sapp reported more details about focusing on Buddy Murphy and Ruby Riott's WWE release. It was noted that Ruby Riott's release had most significant impact on the locker room than the other released stars.

Sources close to WWE told them that Ruby Riott, real name Heidi Lovelace, was 'universally popular' at backstage and announcement of her release reportedly 'seemed to shake the WWE roster the most'.
Ruby Riott was often praised for her hard work behind the scenes. It was also reported that the former Raw Tag Team Champion Buddy Murphy also had the same reputation in the WWE.

From the past few months, Murphy wasn't in the 'creative forecast for WWE' but they have made several pitches for him. All those ideas were 'shot down' and one of the idea includes Murphy reuniting with Wesley Blake.
It was also noted that the former Cruiserweight Champion Murphy was easy to work with backstage in WWE and said to be 'generally receptive to creative'.
